Earlier this year, we were proud to support the "All Volunteer Force" report, which showed that 1.8 million Iraq-Afghanistan veterans were not being given clear paths to serve their communities when they came home.
Today, we're even happier to make sure the words on that paper were not written in vain as nearly 200 young veterans are gathering in LA to discuss the unique challenges they face, brainstorm solutions and compete for grant dollars to help turn their ideas into reality. And, it's all being webcast live so you can tune in!
We're thrilled to join with Mobilize.org, ServiceNation: Mission Serve, MTV, the McCormick Foundation and the Goldhirsh Foundation to sponsor Beyond the Welcome Home, a three-day summit in LA on April 1-3 to allow millennial veterans to determine common issues and veteran-led solutions.
The summit itself will include service projects, keynote speeches, small and large discussions, a grant competition, and instant electronic voting to determine top challenges and top solutions - in real time.
In addition to the entire summit being filmed by MTVu for later airing, it will also be webcast live on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. Already, more than five military bases have agreed to stream the feed live to troops that cannot participate. Check out the schedule to find out when you want to tune in. Also, you can follow and participate in the discussion on twitter by following @mob_org or #millennialvets or join their Facebook fan page.
