Gearing up for a day filled with turkey and gravy, we here at the Case Foundation have realized that we have a lot to be thankful for. We took a break from blogging and finding our favorite pumpkin pie recipes for the upcoming holiday and took a day to give back to our community.

We connected with our partners at City Year DC to see what we can do to help Simon Elementary School in Washington, DC. So, yesterday, we put on our painting gear and headed to Simon Elementary School to paint inspirational murals for a more inviting learning environment for the students. One of my favorite quotes that we painted is by Stevie Wonder:

Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.

After several hours of painting, some sore arms, and great bonding time with the City Year team, we were completely filled with gratitude to have people in our community like the corps members. We contributed a day of our time to this project, but they devote a year of their lives to help benefit the DC community.

So, when you are enjoying your cranberry sauce and cheering on your favorite football teams, remember how easy it is to be able to give back to your community and plan to take some time to give back!
