Late last night (Friday afternoon in Japan) a severe 8.9 magnitude earthquake, as well as several aftershocks and a tsunami struck the island of Japan. Early reports indicate severe devastation in the affected areas. Related to this disaster, the U.S. National Weather Service has also issued a warning for approximately 50 countries or territories around the Pacific in preparation for another possible tsunami.

In an effort to connect people who want to help those affected by this disaster, we wanted to share some online resources and links to several organizations that are leading relief efforts. Please consider supporting these initiatives or sharing this information with your networks:

  • Network for Good: Make an online donation to a number of different organizations supporting relief efforts.
  • Ushahidi: Help identify missing people in Japan.
  • Red Cross: Visit the Red Cross website for updates on how you can support relief efforts or text “Red Cross” to 90999 to donate $10 ($10 will be automatically charged to your phone bill as a donation).
  • #Japan: Follow updates on Twitter through the #Japan hash tag.
