Video can be an extremely powerful way to advance your nonprofit’s mission. However, it also can be challenging, difficult to produce and time consuming… but it doesn’t have to be.

With the right tools and some advance planning you too can produce a compelling video. With more than 200,000 videos being uploaded to YouTube each day, it is quickly becoming one of the most popular and effective ways to share your story.

To help you begin thinking about where to start and what to consider when creating a video, we turned to See3 Communications. Below, Michael Hoffman, CEO of See3, shares with us the right questions to ask yourself and tips for how to select the right approach when developing a nonprofit video.

You can put what you've learned to good use by entering the 5th Annual DoGooder Nonprofit Video Awards, hosted by See 3 and YouTube and sponsored by the Case Foundation. DoGooder is a video contest that highlights the best use of video by nonprofits. Award categories are based on your nonprofit’s organizational size – small, medium and large. New this year, DoGooder is introducing a category for the best “thrifty” videos, meaning those produced for under $500.

Those who enter will again have the chance to win one of four $2,500 grants provided by the Case Foundation, custom cameras from Flip Video, registration to next year’s Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) provided by NTEN and more. The winning videos will be announced at this year’s NTC and featured on YouTube’s homepage in March. For more details visit: youtube.com/nonprofitvideoawards.
