I love fashion. And I also love philanthropy. For a long time, I thought looking good and doing good were two separate interests, but through my work at the Case Foundation, I've discovered thousands of opportunities to do both at the same time. For all the other big-hearted fashionistas out there, I'd like to share some of my favorite ways to be stylish and socially-conscious.
For the inaugural post of my Dressed to Give series, I'm highlighting Kenneth Cole and his AWEARNESS initiative. Anyone who's opened a fashion magazine in the past year at least knows Kenneth Cole for his socially-conscious ads, if not for his designs. More well-versed fashionistas know that he has consistently been at the forefront of merging social change and fashion.
After 25 years of raising awareness on various social issues, Kenneth Cole decided to converge his philanthropic efforts into one initiative, appropriately called AWEARNESS. I encourage you all to check out the initiative's website for yourself to figure out how to get involved, but here's what I think is cool:
- Subscribe to the blog for info on a wide range of social issues.
- Follow AWEARNESS on Twitter for quick updates on the initiative and Kenneth himself.
- Join the Volunteer Alliance to get involved and get rewarded. You can also search for local volunteer opportunities.
- Buy AWEARNESS t-shirts, bags, or hats and all net proceeds will go to the AWEARNESS FUND.
Check back next week for another Dressed to Give post!
