What could possibly be better than an event with over 20 DC area boutiques selling their wares at up to 90% off, might you ask? A shopping extravaganza that benefits charity, of course!
This past Wednesday, I joined hundreds of other socially-conscious fashionistas in attending the District Sample Sale in Georgetown. Proceeds from tickets sales (ranging from $40-200/ticket) benefited Kid Power, an organization that provides youth development programming and service-learning opportunities to underserved communities in DC. The District Sample Sale is a twice-annual fundraising event, combining a good cause with DC's best boutique couture.
Labels for Love is the organization behind all of this fashion and philanthropy. Founded in 2006 by Mary Schmidt Amons, Labels for Love produces fashionable events to raise awareness and funds for DC area nonprofit organizations supporting women and children. They choose one women's and one children's organization each year to benefit from their events. In addition, they've established a legacy fund in order to continue to support previous beneficiaries, which include Suited for Change, So Others Might Eat (SOME), and Martha's Table.
As a fashionista wanting to give back to the DC community, I can't think of a better organization to feature during Women's History Month. To get involved, you can donate, volunteer your services, and of course, attend upcoming Labels for Love-sponsored events! See you at the next District Sample Sale in the Fall!
