For this past Mother's Day, we invited all of you to submit for a chance to win an iPad™ for the great Mom in your life. We're excited today to announce the winners, Laura P. of San Diego, CA and Dick D. of Anchorage, AK! They'll be checking in with us in the coming weeks once the lucky Moms had a chance to get the hang of using the iPad™, but in the meantime, we wanted to share a little bit of their story about why they entered to win, and how they expect the iPad™ to change their lives.
Laura P. is a mother of two, and will be using the iPad™ herself. Here's a little bit of the touching story she told us:
Unfortunately, I lost my mom 33 years ago at the age of 17 so I am keeping the iPad™ for myself. I am a mom to a 24 year old and a 9 year old with Down syndrome. I plan to use the iPad™ for my 9 year old mostly. He is non verbal and I am very excited to try out some new communication systems on it - the proloquo2go and Voice4U, which I have feared would be too hard for him to do on an itouch... And needless to say, we will find many more uses for it! He loves watching Sesame Street youtubes and noggin.com and no doubt I will use it plenty. I belong to several support groups online and I work online. ... you can see it will be put to great use!
Dick D. plans to give the iPad™ to his wife, noting that he often enters sweepstakes "usually in hopes of winning some particular prize my wife or I could not possibly afford to purchase. Such is the case with this iPad™." He also shared this with us:
The special mom I would like to give this special prize to is my wife. We have had considerable difficulty keeping our older computers up and running reliably. I wanted her to have this wonderful tool to help her and encourage her to continue her education and to work toward a degree of some sort in the field of nursing... Thank you so much for offering this prize, this potential opportunity, to provide my wife with a vital tool to further her education.
