Water For People

The Case Foundation’s initial involvement with clean water initiatives began in 2005 with the creation of PlayPumps International – U.S., a nonprofit organization focused on fundraising, advocacy, and education about water poverty in Africa.

In 2009, the Case Foundation provided a grant to Water For People, a nonprofit international humanitarian organization that supports the development of sustainable safe drinking water. Water For People provides access to safe water and sanitation globally, and has been a leader for almost 20 years in promoting sustainable solutions, particularly by leveraging the power of the local private sector for on-going operations and maintenance. Through a grant from PPI, and an additional grant from the Case Foundation, Water For People has added the PlayPump technology to the list of water solutions that it offers to communities in rural Africa beginning in 2010.

The Case Foundation has also been instrumental in the concept development and implementation of FLOW—Field Level Operations Watch—an open source Android app that replaces the clipboard and paper as a primary tool for monitoring & evaluation. FLOW is a multi-lingual, customizable, and instant way to capture and send data. FLOW integrates GPS coordinates, video, and photos for each entry. Once the data is in the cloud, FLOW will automatically generate maps and basic statistics on everything that comes back using Google maps’ or Google Earth’s API creating the only living timeline of water points around the world.
