The Case Foundation believes in the power of philanthropy, nonprofits and government to drive social change.

But philanthropy and government spending may not be enough if we want to solve some of the toughest problems in the United States and around the world.

Business, entrepreneurs and the power of markets can drastically increase the talent and resources available to sustainably solve critical problems. We need the skills, vision and rigor of entrepreneurs and the private sector to support the hard work and passion driving the social sector. Impact investing shows us that it’s possible to build companies that provide both social and financial returns.

“I’ve long been a believer that we need ‘all the oars in the water’ as we look to solve significant social challenges – in other words, the nonprofit, private and public sectors all have an important role to play.” – Jean Case

Making the Case
for Impact Investing

Making A Case for Impact InvestingProfiles of Impact: Many people know a few impact success stories—Tesla, Warby Parker and others. But there are other examples of businesses that are doing well by doing good in industries such as healthy food, financial services and green energy. The Case Foundation has partnered with and ImpactAlpha to produce Profiles of Impact, a series of case studies of social enterprises, funds and impact investors that illustrate the wide range of opportunities available across geographies and asset classes.

Impact Investing 2.0: In partnership with CASE at Duke, PCV Insight and Impact Assets, we’ve supported the launch of a new study, Impact Investing 2.0: Insight from 12 Outstanding Funds. The study—a result of two years of research—provides data and analysis on how impact investing funds can provide both financial and social returns to investors.

Educating Investors

Educating Investors on Impact Investing

Many investors are interested in impact investing, but they are not sure how to get started. The Case Foundation created “A Short Guide to Impact Investing” as a basic primer to help investors better understand how business can drive change and create social impact. The Short Guide provides information on the decisions that investors make as they choose investments by geography, asset class and sector.

Supporting the
U.S. Policy Agenda

Supporting US Policy Impact Investing

The Case Foundation supports the U.S. National Advisory Board on Impact Investing. The National Advisory Board brings together prominent members from across the business and nonprofit sectors to identify policies that support the growing field of impact investing.

The National Advisory Board’s report — Private Capital, Public Good: How Smart Federal Policy Can Galvanize Impact Investing — provides several recommendations for executive and legislative action to support this sector in the United States.

The National Advisory Board’s report was followed by the release of recommendations from the Global Social Impact Investment Task Force, Impact Investment—the Invisible Heart of Markets, which provides additional recommendations for action.
