Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2)
In 2001, shortly after being diagnosed with brain cancer, Steve Case’s brother Dan joined his wife Stacey, along with Steve and his wife Jean, in creating ABC2 . The organization has a singular focus: to find a cure for brain cancer. Jean and Steve Case also serve on the board of ABC2 .
A Different Approach to Cancer Research
Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) understands that brain tumor and cancer patients are in desperate need of new, effective treatments. It takes an aggressive, venture funding approach to drive the most innovative, next-generation research towards the fastest possible route to a cure.
ABC2 is focused on supporting translational research in targeted therapies, drug delivery, cancer stem cells and using biomarkers for early detection and prognosis. It partners with leading medical research institutions, government agencies and biopharmaceutical companies to rapidly translate innovative ideas from the lab to the clinic setting for investigation and trial. ABC2 provides researchers with the pivotal support they need to make critical scientific breakthroughs. ABC2 invests in the early stages of the therapeutic development pipeline in order to “buy down the risk” for its industry partners.
ABC2’s accomplishments are measured by impact, leadership and leverage. It has awarded over $15 million in grants to world-renowned researchers from 36 institutions. With ABC2’s leadership, the National Cancer Institute chose glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) as one of the first cancers to be thoroughly profiled for the Cancer Genome Atlas. ABC2’s novel collaboration with Genentech resulted in the first brain cancer drug approved by the FDA in over a decade.
Join in the Fight
Fighting brain cancer is a team effort. In order to raise support for vital brain cancer research, ABC2 hosts annual events and encourages supporters to host their own local community fundraisers. Please consider joining ABC2 along with brain tumor survivors, friends, families and other supporters for the Florida Brain Cancer 5k in Palm Beach, FL; the Race for Hope DC – in Washington, DCand the Race Towards a Cure – Marine Corps Marathon Series. In addition, supporters can host their own fundraising events through ABC2’s Community Connections.
Together with our partners we're committed to accelerate the cure for brain cancer.
